Project Scoping
The purpose of this article is not to imply good or bad scoping decisions. The goal is to assist the practitioner in understanding the key elements of scope, potential implications, and set the right expectations. Next this enables the practitioner to develop a schedule and budget that is real and people can support. After all, it is people that must make this plan a reality.
I make reference to the “dimensions” of project scope. This is because scope and boundaries do have dimensions in terms of different views of the project, level of detail and other twist that warrant a separate and distinct perspective on scope. With regard to the actual deliverable, most of the dimensions below should contain a list of items, and each with a “degree of complexity or effort” (high, medium or low). In the next blog entries, we discuss how this information is used to develop a project schedule and budget.
Project management
Project management is a carefully planned and organized effort to accomplish a successful project. A project is a one-time effort that produces a specific result, for example, a building or a major new computer system. This is in contrast to a program, which is
- an ongoing process, such as a quality control program, or
- an activity to manage a series of multiple projects together.
Data cleansing consultation
Most of ERP software vendors purposely do not take responsibility for cleansing data before or during an ERP implementation. It is extremely costly for them to do so, therefore they opt to leaving the data cleansing to the actual ERP users. While the ERP software vendors do not put this high on their priority list, the ERP project team should make this an integral part of the ERP implementation.
Why do I consider data cleansing an art form? The art lies in making a smooth cutover at go-live. Bringing enough clean, accurate, up-to-date and relevant records to function with as little of the “junk” as possible. This ensures minimal downtime at conversion, as well as reduced problems after go-live.
Data Migration
As business focus and strategies change over time, the core information or data needs to be captured and transferred to newer functional systems overtime.
Ru Infotech ERP Migration Services helps eliminate the complexity and risk associated with such data migration with unrivalled accuracy. A While streamlining various processes for ERP implementations, integrations and Data Migration services are ever important in order to derive maximum Return on investments.
Development & Customizations
We live in the Golden Age of the Consumer, where virtually everything can be customized or personalized in some way. If you can customize mass-produced consumer goods, it seems reasonable to expect that you should be able to customize something as strategic and mission-critical as an enterprise resource planning system, too. But just because you can, does this mean that you should?
Change Requests
Ru Infotech Using the Change Module you can modernize and simplify your entire change process. This software will make sure all changes to item master or bills of materials are controlled and documented. It ensures engineering can manage all the parts, assembly and bill of material data, approval processes and change management while maintaining full audit trails.
Data access controls & security
An enterprise resource planning (ERP) system is a commercial software package that can integrate all information flowing through the entity. ERP systems contain functional modules (e.g., financial, accounting, human resources, supply chain and customer information) that are integrated within the core system and often interfaced to external systems.
Application testing
ERP, or Enterprise Resource Planning, software is designed to integrate applications such as finance, payroll, order processing and other business function modules into a single system. The key attribute of an ERP is sharing of data, data format and rules. This makes testing ERP systems far more complex than testing standalone software applications.
The impact of configuration or software changes is felt throughout the system, so all components of the system must be tested, not just the one application being deployed.
User training
Ru Infotech offers the End User Training to improve an efficiencies and extended capabilities. They also represent a major investment in your organization’s technology infrastructure. For your organization to achieve the enhanced capabilities and return-on-investment an ERP system can provide, your workforce must be engaged, empowered, and ready to embrace the change.
